BRE Services developed the Animal Interlock System (AIS), an innovative safety and automation solution designed to reduce reliance on administrative controls when managing Cat 1 Dangerous Animals. The system integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure and applies interlocking principles to ensure animals remain securely confined to designated areas, significantly improving operational safety and efficiency.
A key feature of the AIS is the Animal Location Validation system, which provides real-time tracking of animal positions via SIMATIC Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). This functionality enhances situational awareness for keepers, enabling more secure and informed animal management.
The solution was built on a Siemens ET200-SP failsafe controller platform, with HMIs providing intuitive operator interaction. BRE’s scope included the development of a Safety Requirements Specification (SRS), detailed electrical and mechanical design, schematic development, full installation, and safety validation.
The successful deployment of the AIS has elevated safety standards in the handling of dangerous animals, delivering a robust, automated system that protects both personnel and animals while supporting efficient facility operations.
