BRE Services successfully delivered a major control system upgrade for a kiln at a large brick manufacturing facility, replacing an obsolete Siemens S5 controller with a modern S7-1500 system. The upgrade included multiple remote I/O racks, peripheral controls, and wireless communications to existing delivery and takeaway systems—bringing new technology into a legacy plant environment.
A new Ignition SCADA interface was developed off-site, providing a modern, user-friendly platform for real-time kiln monitoring and control. The project required reverse engineering of indirectly addressed heating and extraction systems, followed by a tightly coordinated cutover and commissioning phase during a limited shutdown window.
A team of four senior engineers worked intensively on-site to ensure a smooth transition, completing the upgrade within the required timeframe. The result is a more reliable and accessible control system, with Ignition’s remote visibility features enabling plant-wide access to kiln status and performance.
This project exemplifies BRE’s ability to modernize critical infrastructure through innovative engineering, delivering long-term value and operational confidence to our clients.
